Student financial aid information

All first-time borrowers must participate in a student on-line entrance counseling process. Completing exit counselling is mandatory for student who withdraw, graduate, or end their studies.

Withdrawals or changes to course load may result in ineligibility for all or part of student loan funding, please visit the US residents page for further information.

Satisfactory academic progress

Students in receipt of Title IV funding are required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as per the US Department of Education policy. For more information please visit the US residents page.

Students with disabilities

The Academic Accommodations Service works with the University of Ottawa community to support students with temporary or permanent disabilities.

Study abroad and exchange programs

Students studying abroad cannot receive Title IV funding as they would not be paying their tuition fees to the University of Ottawa. Students enrolled in an official University of Ottawa Exchange Program are considered as uOttawa students. To be considered for funding, the host university must be a Title IV eligible school, not located within the continental United States. For more information, please visit the US residents page.    

National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

The Financial Aid and Awards Service reports student enrolment via NSLDS several times each academic year, but roughly every 60 days. More information is available on the NSLDS frequently asked questions page.

Privacy of student records (FERPA privacy laws and regulations for US citizens)

The University of Ottawa has put in place Policy 14a that defines the rights and obligations of students and of the University and its officers in matters pertaining to student records.

Ineligible programs

Students in all nursing programs, the Juris Doctor/American University (Washington College of Law) program and the Doctor of Medicine program are not eligible for funding via the Direct Loan Program.
