Intérêts de recherche
Dans les dernières décennies, il a clairement été démontré que la communication inter-organes est d’une importance cruciale dans la pathophysiologie de nombreuses maladies. Il est maintenant reconnu que le muscle squelettique sécrète des cytokines appelées myokines qui peuvent influencer de manière positive ou négative la fonction de tissus/organes à distance.
La recherche de Dr. Aguer étudie comment les facteurs sécrétés par les muscles lors de la contraction musculaire influencent la santé métabolique en se concentrant sur des maladies chroniques reliées à une augmentation de l’inflammation (résistance à l’insuline, diabète, dépression, etc.) Le but de sa recherche est de déterminer les impacts d’une altération du sécrétome musculaire pouvant être induit par l’exercice, des maladies chroniques montrant une augmentation de l’inflammation et les polluants environnementaux.
Le laboratoire du Dr. Aguer est financé par l’Institut du Savoir Montfort et le CRSNG.
