Annette M. O'Connor

Annette O’Connor a contribué à l’émergence d’un nouveau champ de « partage de prise de décision médicale » grâce aux données qu’elle a recueillies et aux modèles d’intervention novateurs qu’elle a imaginés. Ses études ont permis de mettre à la disposition du personnel médical des connaissances, des outils et des normes applicables lorsqu’il faut informer les patients de décisions de traitement difficiles. Ses travaux ont servi à l’élaboration de nouvelles politiques et de nouvelles lois à l’échelon international régissant le partage des décisions entre patients et professionnels de la santé. Elle a joué un rôle crucial dans la création d’un forum académique international consacré à ces questions.

Annette O'Connor a reçu de nombreux prix, entre autres: le Society for Medical Decision Making Career Achievement Award (2012), le John Eisenberg Award for Exemplary Leadership in the Application of Medical Decision Making (2004), et l’université d’Ottawa Professeure Éminente (2009). Elle est un membre de la Société royale du Canada et un membre de l’Académie canadienne des sciences de la santé. Elle a été nommée Officier de l'Ordre du Canada. Pendant 18 années elle a reçus des prix entant que scientifique de carrière (Career Scientist Awards), entre autres une Chaire de recherche du Canada Niveau 1.
