Le professeur Chan est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en toxicologie et en santé environnementale. Il étudie l'exposition aux contaminants chimiques présents dans l'alimentation et l'environnement, en particulier chez les peuples autochtones. Le Dr Chan évalue les effets de ces contaminants sur la santé des écosystèmes et la santé humaine et élabore de nouveaux outils pour l'évaluation des risques. En laboratoire, il utilise différents modèles et techniques biochimiques pour mieux comprendre comment les produits chimiques affectent les fonctions biologiques de la faune et des humains. Son objectif est de développer des outils et des programmes efficaces pour la gestion et la promotion de la santé environnementale pour les populations humaines.
