For the third year in a row, Professor Claudia Bouliane invites undergraduate and graduate students in the French Department to join the Department's book club.

As part of the "Rendez-vous du premier roman" network, the club will meet from September 2022 to February 2023 to discuss two first French-language novels from a Canadian and French selection. At the end of these monthly meetings, during which they will exchange their critiques of the 16 novels in the running, the club members will elect the two best in each category (Canada and France). The winning authors will have a chance to win the "Rendez-vous du premier roman - Lectures plurielles" award. The Canadian French-language selection has already been announced and promises to be an exciting discovery.

The club will be composed of a dozen members. Meetings will be held in person or on Zoom, depending on the wishes of the majority, and discussions will continue on Brightspace. The meeting times will be decided by the members once the club is formed.

It is an extracurricular activity designed to discover new writers, meet fellow literary studies students in a friendly setting, and develop one's ability to express oneself about a work. Participation in the club requires a serious commitment and a consistent reading practice (two books of approximately 250 pages per three weeks). Interested students in the French Department are invited to contact Claudia Bouliane at [email protected].
