The BA in Digital Journalism trains students to report, research, and produce content across digital platforms. The program is offered jointly with Algonquin College and La Cité combining university-level courses in communication, media studies, and humanities with college-level, hands-on journalism training. Students registered in the Honours Bachelor in Digital Journalism at the University of Ottawa who have a CGPA of 6.0 may apply for a transfer to the Journalism program at Algonquin College using the following procedure:
- Students must fill out the Algonquin College Application Form for Students from the University of Ottawa available at the Undergraduate Office of the Faculty of Arts, at 60 University, Simard Hall, Room 128. Students must then submit the form to the Undergraduate Office of the Faculty of Arts, at the latest on January 10th or next business day.
- There are no fees required for the request to transfer to the Diploma of Journalismnorth_eastexternal link program at Algonquin College when the above procedure (point 1) is followed.
- Algonquin College will provide students with a response to their request, at the latest June 1st or next working day.
- The University of Ottawa will provide final transcripts to Algonquin College.
NOTE: The Algonquin College Application Form for Students from the University of Ottawa may be used only for those seeking transfer to the Diploma in Journalism or the Diploma in Public Relations programs offered at Algonquin College. Admission to all other programs will require a formal application for admission via ontariocolleges.canorth_east

You may choose to pursue graduate studies, such as a Master’s degree (MA or MC), to deepen your knowledge and develop advanced research, analytical, and critical thinking skills. A research-based MA is ideal if you’re interested in specializing in a topic or eventually pursuing a PhD, while the Master of Communication (MC) offers a more practical approach, with the option of gaining professional experience through co-op placements.
Alternatively, you can move directly into the job market. Your degree can lead to a variety of careers in fields such as journalist, media analyst, photojournalist, or editor in today’s evolving media industry. These opportunities allow you to apply your skills in writing, strategy, and journalism in real-world settings.
