Education and Engagement at the uOttawa Museum
Over the past academic year, the Museum of Classical Antiquities has been exploring new ways to connect with its audience and create a community of education and engagement.
By developing new interactive and hands-on programs, museum volunteers are encouraging visitors to connect with the collection in meaningful, valuable ways. Moreover, they’re using social media as a tool to communicate with their audience, sharing interesting facts about the collection and providing a behind-the-scenes look at their work.
After an introduction by Professor Serrati, director of outreach, museum interns Georgian Parkes and Sophie Vigneux will discuss new visitor-based approaches and how they’re making the museum interesting for all!
Georgian Parkes
Museum Intern
Georgian has just completed her undergraduate degree with an honours BA in history and English. Having worked in a number of museums, Georgian is particularly interested in public engagement and developing interactive activities. She’s also taken the lead on managing the @uottawamuseum social media accounts, and is currently working at the Goulbourn Museum as its programming coordinator.
Sophie Vigneux
Museum Intern
Sophie has just completed an Honours BSocSc with majors in anthropology and Greek and Roman studies. Particularly interested in archaeology, she is fascinated by how emerging technologies and techniques can aid in research, understanding and education about ancient material culture. As an intern, Sophie focuses on cataloguing and developing current exhibits, especially pertaining to the museum’s numismatics collection.
