  1. Students whose level of proficiency is higher than elementary Chinese or Japanese, as established by a placement test, will either take 6 course units at the intermediate or advanced level or 6 course units in the other language.
  2. Advanced standing for courses taught in Asian languages other than Chinese or Japanese may count towards the optional course.
  3. Students who select Option 1: Chinese may take courses from Option 2: Japanese to fulfill the optional course requirements, and vice-versa.
