Program details

To teach a specific subject, such as French, Geography, or Biology, etc... you need to have taken university courses in that subject. Make sure that you have taken the required number of courses in the subject for the teaching division.

Primary/Junior division (P/J)

The P/M division prepares you to teach Kindergarten to Grade 6 in Ontario's French-language schools.

It provides you with skills in teaching and learning methods for all subjects, including French, mathematics, social studies, science, arts, health and physical education.

No prerequisite courses required.

Program applications to the program are accepted from mid-September of each year until the program is full.

Junior/Intermediate division (J/I)

The P/M division prepares you to teach grades 4 to 10 in Ontario's French-language schools.

You must choose an academic option.

Intermediate/Senior division (I/S)

The P/M division prepares you to teach in both middle school (grades 7 and 8) and high school (grades 9 to 12). in Ontario's French-language schools.

You must choose two academic options from among the teachable subjects.

Program applications to the program are accepted from mid-September of each year until the program is full.

This program offers 20 courses (60 credits), specially designed to train candidates wishing to teach in the primary and junior divisions from kindergarten to Grade 6 in French-language schools. Program requirements and course descriptions are available here.

Anyone who has not met the passing threshold for the language proficiency exam will be automatically enrolled in the course PED 1599 Connaissances et habilités reliées au français écrit en enseignement (3 additional credits).
Choose one optional course based on your interest and professional aspirations. Each course has limited enrollment. The Faculty of Education will determine the courses offered each year.

Course registration

The Undergraduate Studies office of the Faculty of Education registers students for all compulsory courses as well as optional courses according to their teaching subject (Junior/intermediate and intermediate/senior division). Students will be responsible for registering for their elective course.

Optional courses

Once the registration period has opened, students must register themselves for their elective course according to their program requirements through their uoZone student portal.

Not all teaching subjects are offered each year. Please refer to the documentation attached to the admission application form.
Students required to take the supplementary French course cannot enroll in the French as a First Language option.
Students who choose a science teaching subject must take PED 3728. Students selecting two science teaching subjects must take the course PED 2728.
