10:25 to 10:55 AM
Presentation: Collaborative approaches to research and professional development
Mirela Moldoveanu
Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa
Among the means used to support teachers' professional development, collaborative arrangements seem to stand out for their contribution to the mobilization of research knowledge (RK) in practice. Based on the results of several collaborative research projects conducted in recent years, we will analyse the professional learning achieved by the members of these teams. The winning conditions for implementing collaborative research projects in schools and the factors anticipated to maximize their impact on the professional development of teachers will also be discussed.

 11:00 to 11:30 AM
Presentation: Research and Professional Development
Karine Bécu-Robinault
Senior Lecturer at ENS Lyon
Michèle Prieur
Head of Studies, French Institute of Education
Teacher training in France is based on a strong principle of training through research. During the presentation, we will discuss the effective place of educational research in initial and in-service teacher training by examining the types of research used and their translation. After the presentation of examples from initial training, we will present the Lieux d'éducation associés system, which enables teachers to carry out projects in collaboration with research teams throughout their careers and in response to their professional questions.

11:30 to Noon
Discussion

Laurent Courbon
Research Fellow, French Institute of Education
After a brief presentation of the training activity at the IFÉ, the discussion will focus on the results of a study on the notion of appropriation of research contributions in training. After explaining the context of this study, we will present some theoretical and methodological aspects. In particular, we will discuss the choices made to conceptualise the notion of appropriation and develop analytical tools. We will use examples that show the stakes and importance of this subject and then open the discussion on the perspectives of research and training.

Liliane Dionne
Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa
The two conferences presented address the need to mobilize knowledge from research and practice. Indeed, the educational reality of the 21st century requires teachers to be on the cutting edge of their professional practices; being on the cutting edge requires, among other things, having access to the results of educational research. This dissemination can be activated in a variety of ways, both in pre-service training and to contribute to teachers' professional development. Educational researchers are increasingly conducting participatory research (PR) with practitioners, enabling them to build knowledge and experience. Learning communities are part of these PR schemes. Certain conditions are necessary in teacher education programmes to enable future teachers to become aware of the importance of research. Conditions must also be met for PR to be interesting for teachers, so that they engage with researchers in knowledge building to improve educational practices, but also to enrich research data. My paper will address some of these conditions that facilitate the dissemination and construction of knowledge between the research, practice and training communities.
