Nov 26, 2024 — 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Faculty of Education’s EDUCLANG research group invites you to its next research forum titled Resilience and persistence: Unveiling the journey of Arabic-speaking female Muslim teachers in Adult ESL Education, presented by Dima Zaid-Kilani.
Description
The EDUCLANG research group is proud to present a seminar featuring Dima Zaid-Kilani, a distinguished alumni and current EDUCLANG contributor. Currently pursuing her PhD at Carleton University, Zaid-Kilani will share her pioneering research on the resilience and challenges faced by Arabic-speaking female Muslim teachers in adult ESL education in Canada. Conducted from a unique Arabic and Palestinian perspective, her work provides profound insights into identity, agency, and the lived experiences of underrepresented educators in this field.
This seminar coincides with a recent increase in antisemitism, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigenous racism, and linguicism, underscoring the importance of understanding and addressing these intersecting challenges. EDUCLANG is dedicated to advancing knowledge on languages and education, including language teaching and learning. As part of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education, EDUCLANG strives to disseminate research both within Canada and across the English- and French-speaking worlds.
