Languages welcome signs

Description

The aim of this study day is to look at minority-language education systems in Ontario and Brittany, as well as elsewhere in the world, in order to describe, compare, and understand the place they give to students' plurilingual skills in a context of growing diversification, particularly as a result of migratory processes. 

Program : 

  • 8:00 am: Presentation of CELTIC-BLM research areas (Erwan HUPEL and Stéphanie CLERC CONAN)  
  • 8:15 am: Presentation of the activities of the Observatoire sur l'éducation en contexte linguistique minoritaire (Nathalie BÉLANGER, OÉCLM).  
  • 8:30 am: Overview of Breton-French bilingual education, problems and research streams (Stefan MOAL, CELTIC-BLM)  
  • 9:00 am: Comparison of Breton and Welsh bilingual education systems, primary and secondary levels (Renan KERBIQUET, CELTIC-BLM)  
  • 9:30 am: The introduction of national languages into the education system in sub-Saharan Africa: The case of Senegal (Boubacar DIALLO, OÉCLM)  
  • 10:00 am: Break (15 minutes)  
  • 10:15 am: E-learning in French-language secondary schools in Ontario: Realities, challenges and opportunities (Fatou CISSÉ, OÉCLM)  
  • 10:45 am: Professional gestures, training, issues and the teacher effect in French-Breton bilingual education (Yann VERNEY, CELTIC-BLM)  
  •  11:15 am: Moving from language learning to language appropriation in Diwan schools (Gildas GRIMAULT, CELTIC-BLM)  
  •  11:45 am: Closing and moderation: Philippe BLANCHET LUNATI (CELTIC-BLM)  

NB: Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by a 10-minute discussion.
