Peggy J. Kleinplatz, Ph.D. is a professor in the Faculty of Family Medicine and Director of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team at the University of Ottawa. She is Cross-Appointed to the School of Epidemiology and Public Health and to the Faculty of Education. She is a clinical psychologist, certified in sex education and as a diplomate and supervisor of sex therapy. Since 1983, she has been teaching Human Sexuality at University of Ottawa, where she received the Prix d'Excellence in 2000. Kleinplatz has edited four books, notably: New Directions in Sex Therapy: Innovations and Alternatives, (Routledge, 2012), winner of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapist (AASECT) 2013 Book Award, and Sexuality & Ageing (Routledge, 2017) with Walter Bouman, Ph.D. Her fifth book, Magnificent Sex: Lessons from Extraordinary Loverswith co-author A. Dana Ménard, Ph.D., received the 2021 consumer Book Award from the Society for Sex Therapy and Research. In 2015, Kleinplatz received the Professional Standard of Excellence Award from the American Association of Sexuality Editors, Counsellors and Therapists. Her clinical work focuses on eroticism and transformation. Her current research focuses on optimal sexual experience, with a particular interest in sexual health in the elderly, disabled and marginalized populations.
