The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) determines the Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession and the Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession. These standards apply to practicums as well.
To understand how the OCT standards are applied in the Formation à l’enseignement program, see the Faculty regulations.
Teacher candidates are associate members of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF). You must therefore comply with professional ethical standards as do OTF members during your practicums. Therefore, before you’re even offered a practicum in a school, you must:

Each school board applies its own policies concerning the health and safety training required before starting a practicum.
The three Ottawa school boards (CECCE, CEPEO, CSDCEO) and the Conseil scolaire de l’Est ontarien, which host teacher candidates, apply the Ontario regulation on occupational health and safety awareness and training. This requires employers to offer health and safety training to every worker and supervisor in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which covers workplaces regulated by the province. This requirement applies to those performing practicums.
Before starting your practicum, you must therefore have taken the Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps training available on the Ministry of Labour website.
You must print your Proof of Completion certificate and provide it along with your vulnerable sector screening on the first day of your practicum.
You can only start your practicum in a school under a school board if the two documents are valid and presented to the school principal or vice-principal, and it has been confirmed that you are allowed to begin your practicum.
