Biography

Dr. Hassan Aoude joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa as an Assistant Professor in August 2009.  He is a PhD graduate from McGill University and has a Master`s degree from École de Technologie Supérieure (Montréal, Canada).

Dr. Aoude`s main research interests relate to the structural use of high performance fiber reinforced concretes, particularly in extreme load applications (seismic and blast). Other interests include the seismic and blast resistant design and retrofit of concrete structures, the structural safety of concrete parking structures, the rehabilitation of concrete structures and the seismic risk assessment of concrete and masonry structures. In addition to research, Dr. Aoude teaches in both official languages at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Aoude has a strong passion for teaching and is interested in the use of innovative teaching & learning methodologies in engineering (hybrid learning, online learning, etc.).

Research interests

  • High performance fiber reinforced concretes: steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC), combined use of SCC and fibres, ultra high performance fiber reinforced concretes (UHP-FRC)
  • Structural use of high performance concretes in extreme load applications (seismic and blast)
  • Seismic and Blast resistant design & retrofit of concrete structures
  • Structural safety of reinforced concrete parking structures
