Dr. Marzieh Riahinezhad, PhD, PEng, PMP, received her Bachelor of Science (2007) and Master of Science (2009) in Polymer Engineering in Iran. Before starting her PhD in Canada, she worked as a polymer engineer in rubber industry and a material research centre. Marzieh received her PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2015 from University of Waterloo. She received three awards for her PhD dissertation including the international “Best Dissertation of the Year ADIPEC Award” in excellence in energy (2015), Institute for Polymer Research award for academic excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering (2015), and University of Waterloo Chemical Engineering Medal for Proficiency in Research (2016).
After completing her PhD, Marzieh worked as a Polymer Scientist at Kinectrics Inc. (2016), where she was responsible for conducting research on failure analysis, environmental qualification, condition assessment and ageing management of polymeric materials used in nuclear industry.
Marzieh joined Construction Research Centre at National Research Council Canada in 2018. Currently, her main research projects relate to the development of sustainable polymer-based building envelope materials, their performance evaluation, aging and durability assessment, and service life predication. She has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement Awards, NRC President’s Award for Protecting Canadians, in 2021, and the Value for Canada Award in 2019 from the National Research Council Canada.
Marzieh has authored/co-authored over 20 refereed journal papers, 2 book chapters, along with over 30 conference and other invited presentations. She is a member at International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction CIB W080, and ASTM Committee G03 on weathering and durability. Since fall 2020, Marzieh is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa.
