The University Research Chair (URC) Program seeks to foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity and excellence within the University of Ottawa research portfolio. This distinction recognizes researchers demonstrating continued outstanding accomplishments in their field of study as well as dedication to further supporting research within the scope of the University's strategic areas.
Professor Mamadou Fall’s research is centered around the premise of designing resilient and sustainable geoengineering structures for producing clean energy, something our world needs to combat climate change.
Dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse culture within his research team and community, Professor Fall introduced an industry-focused two-day conference for students in his classes to illustrate potential career paths. Through creating a space for students to network with potential employers and find research opportunities, Professor Fall has helped them expand their career opportunities.
Professor Fall is the chair of the Department of Civil Engineering, which he first joined as an assistant professor in 2006 and was promoted to full professor in 2014. His research has garnered national and international attention, due to his expertise, publications and speaking engagements. In 2021, he was included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists list released by Stanford University.
Through his role as a University Research Chair, Professor Fall will be able to employ more graduate and undergraduate students in his lab, furthering his commitment to provide students with research and job experience.
