Three new start-ups have received funding after their wins in this year’s Entrepreneurial Idea Competition. Presenting innovative ways to enhance our collective futures, these Faculty of Engineering students are looking to give back to the community with their ideas.

This year brought many important advances in the life sciences and cybersecurity sectors, both for the University of Ottawa and the National Capital Region. The launch of the Health Sciences building, the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI), the Canadian Pandemic Preparedness Hub (CP2H) and the uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range all give reason for a positive, hopeful future for Canadians in 2024.

Through the Regional Future Workforce (RFW) program, sponsored by the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, students can explore various careers in the auto sector.

To shed light on the international AI scene, leading academics from around the world were invited to the University of Ottawa to participate in Shaping AI for Just Futures, a two-day conference spearheaded by Professor Florian Martin-Bariteau and colleagues interested in the future of AI in society.

The Faculty of Engineering offers two “Best Thesis Awards” to graduate students at the graduate level every year. This year, the recipients are Nada Hegazy (MASc in environmental engineering) and Zachary John Comeau (PhD in chemical engineering).
