Dr. Julio Valdés has a PhD in mathematics (1987). He was a professor at the Higher Polytechnic Institute "José A. Echevarría," La Habana, Cuba (1977-1980) and a researcher at the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (1980-1994).He was head of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis, Academy of Sciences of Cuba, La Habana, Cuba (1987-1994).
He was a researcher at the Faculty of Informatics, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany (1991-1992) and at the Higher Scientific Research Council of Spain (1994-1996). He was a professor at the Faculty of Informatics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona (1996-2001).
He joined the National Research Council (NRC)as a Research Officer and is an adjunct professor at the Department of Engineering and Computer Science, Université du Québec en Outaouais (2006-present). He is also an adjunct Professor at the School of Information Technology and Engineering (Faculty of Engineering), University of Ottawa (2008-present).
