Channarong Intahchomphoo is an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa’s School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation specializing in the societal impact of AI and robotics. His work focuses on responsible design of AI systems, particularly for underserved communities, guiding engineers, business leaders and policymakers in incorporating social responsibility in technology practices.
Channarong has taught courses such as “Ethics for Design, AI and Robotics,” and has conducted research on AI’s role in underserved communities. In 2024, he delivered a keynote speech at the United Nations in Geneva on AI bias and fairness.
Since 2022, Channarong has served as an adviser to AImpower, a Silicon Valley nonprofit dedicated to co-creating technology for marginalized communities. Since 2024, he has advised Building Futures, a digital mentoring centre for Indigenous youth,
Channarong received Meta’s Global Literacy and Accessibility Challenge Research Award in 2018, for research on literacy among female migrants. He was a finalist for the Ontario Lieutenant Governor’s Visionaries Prize in 2017 for his PhD dissertation about Indigenous youth in Ontario. He has received several academic honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship, and was named engineering valedictorian at the University of Ottawa’s 2019 Convocation.
