Channarong Intahchomphoo is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ottawa, Canada.
He studies the real-world impacts of AI and robotics, with a focus on underserved communities, and help engineers, policy makers, and business leaders put ethics and social responsibility into their practices.
His educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Information Studies (Chiang Mai University, Thailand), a Master’s degree in Information Studies specializing in Management of Information Services (University of Ottawa), and a Ph.D. and postdoctoral research fellowships in Digital Transformation and Innovation (a co-supervision between University of Ottawa and Norwegian University of Science and Technology).
Dr. Intahchomphoo was a finalist for the 2017 Ontario Lieutenant Governor’s Visionaries Prize in the reconciliation category for his doctoral dissertation on "Facebook Usage among Urban Indigenous Youth at Risk in Ontario".
In 2018, he obtained the Meta/Facebook Global Literacy and Accessibility Challenge Research Award from the Human Computer Interaction & User Experience programs for the research project entitled "Literacy and (Un)Documented Female Migrants in Chiang Mai, Thailand" and in 2019 his white paper entitled, "Connectivity and Arctic Climate Action".
Intahchomphoo has been invited to be a keynote speaker on the theme “Does AI Reinforce Racism and Racial Discrimination?” at the United Nations’ 10th session of the Group of Independent Eminent Experts on the Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, in Geneva, Switzerland, in June 2024.
