Message from the dean

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa is a top choice for a new generation of leaders in health and well-being. Our diverse programs contribute to more equitable access to health-care services and the creation of resilient communities. We are also a driving force behind scientific discoveries and innovation, allowing our researchers and students to use their creativity to address real health issues.

Our mission is clear: to become a top destination for learning in health and well-being, and to give our students the necessary skills to prosper in francophone, anglophone and bilingual health-care settings.

As we enter a new phase of our 2030 Transformation strategic plan of the University, we acknowledge the importance of continuity. That is why we are leaning on the achievements and the lessons learned from the previous Faculty plan to build from that foundation, so that we can face the challenges of tomorrow with agility and sustainability.

At the Faculty of Health Sciences, we are committed to providing a work and learning environment that is stimulating and welcoming for students, administrative personnel and professors. I am proud to share with you our new strategic plan for 2024–2029. It is a plan that reflects our values and will allow us to shape the future of health.

Process

To clearly define our strategic priorities, the Faculty conducted a thorough review of the previous strategic plan (2019–2023), consulting with our various stakeholders and holding two leadership retreats.

Leadership team retreat to review outcomes of previous strategic plan 

(August 2023)

Phase 2

In-person consultations and follow-up surveys

Consultations were held with students, professors, researchers and administrative personnel to discuss their concerns and determine their priorities for the next strategic plan. A follow-up survey was sent to students, professors, researchers, administrative personnel and Faculty partners to gather more information. Data concerning graduating students (CGPSS-Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey 2022) were also considered.

Executive Committee retreat to examine consultation process results and identify strategic priorities

Production of a draft plan

Finalization and approval of the strategic plan

Our strategic research priorities

Research at the Faculty of Health Sciences encourages interdisciplinary and intersectoral synergies, to advance knowledge furthering health and well-being for all.
The Faculty’s strategic research priorities are meant to align with the latest Faculty and University strategic plans. The themes and sub-themes emerged from discussion with members of the Research Committee and the broader research community.
