Professor Jeffrey Reading will be presenting a lecture entitled, “Indigenous Health and Wellness: How the Academy can support Indigenous Peoples.”
Tier 1 Canada Research Chair lecture: Indigenous health and wellness
The Faculty of Health Sciences is presently recruiting a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in supporting Indigenous health and well-being. The established Indigenous scholar's research program collaborates with Indigenous communities to promote Indigenous ways of knowing and improve health and well-being. Professor Reading is presenting this lecture as part of the recruitment process.

Professor Reading has more than two decades of experience enhancing knowledge in Indigenous health issues, both in Canada and globally, bringing attention to issues including social determinants of health, environmental issues, health promotion and disease prevention, heart health, diabetes, tobacco misuse and accessibility to health care among Indigenous Canadians. Professor Reading has played a pivotal role in the introduction of Canadian ethics guidelines for Indigenous health research, and he also made key contributions to the Canadian Academy of Health Science’s report and solutions that aim to have a particular impact on Indigenous Peoples’ health globally.
