To help alleviate the shortage of personal protective equipment, the Faculty of Health Sciences has donated its equipment used for teaching purposes to hospitals in Ottawa.

During the month of March 2020, more than 20,000 pairs of gloves, 1,000 protective masks, hydroalcoholic gel and dressings were donated to the Ottawa Hospital, which will oversee the distribution within the region.

The Faculty also made 2 artificial respirators available to hospitals, to combine efforts with those of La Cité College and Algonquin College.

4th-year Health Sciences’ students lend a hand

As of the first week of April, 30 students from the School of Nursing will lend a hand at Montfort Hospital and the General Hospital. Following an invitation from hospitals, the 4th year cohort will support the delivery of health care to the people of Ottawa who are going through this pandemic.

This support adds to the dozens of nurse practitioners in training who have been assisting staff at COVID-19 screening sites since mid-March with coordination duties and logistics.
