Sandra Harrisson, RN, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. She is President of the Canadian Association for the History of Nursing (CANH-CAHN) and Associate Director of the Nursing History Research Unit (NHRU) at the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining the Ottawa faculty, she held a regular faculty position at the Université du Québec de Trois-Rivières (UQTR). She has practiced primarily as a nurse in the Emergency and Intensive Care Departments.
Her doctoral studies focused on psychiatric dehospitalization in the Eastern Ontario francophone community between 1976 and 2006. Her research interests include the history of medicine, the history of psychiatry, and gerontopsychiatry. She actively participates in the development and implementation of the Pleasure Approach to Services and Care (PSASC) for people with memory impairment and their families.
