Michel D. Landry

School of Rehabilitation Sciences (’93)
Professor at Western Norway University and president of World Physiotherapy

In 2023, Michel Landry was elected president of World Physiotherapy, a global organization representing 625,000 physiotherapists across 121 countries. Dr. Landry is currently a professor in Norway, at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. His teaching and research have focused on global health, health system strengthening and rehabilitation health service and policy.

Friend of the Faculty Award

The Friend of the Faculty Award recognizes exceptional contributions to the Faculty of Health Sciences by individuals or groups. It is awarded every year as part of the Dean’s Ceremony of Excellence, which highlights innovation and important work being done at the Faculty.

2023 Friend of the Faculty Award

Denise Alcock

Denise Alcock is a former professor, dean (1997–2002) and director of the School of Nursing. She was a day one employee when CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) opened in 1974. Over her 40-year career, Alcock has worked as a clinician, educator, administrator and researcher in the United States, England and Canada. She was the founding director of two departments at CHEO and a founding member of the CHEO Research Institute. In 1989, she became director of the School of Nursing and associate dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and from 1997 to 2002, served as dean. Since her retirement, she has continued to work as a consultant and, in 2007, completed a one-year term as consultant to and interim director of the Institute of Population Health at the University of Ottawa.
