Jennifer Brunet, Associate Professor in the School of Human Kinetics has received the prestigious Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier II in Physical Activity Promotion for Cancer Prevention and Survivorship for her work in the interdisciplinary field of behavioural medicine.

Jennifer's field of research is critically important in today’s context of an increasing aging population, the growing burden of cancer in Canada, and the ongoing epidemic of physical inactivity. Beginning in February 2019 and for the next five years, this award will support her research project to answer two important research questions: What are the determinants of physical activity in people diagnosed with cancer? and What are the outcomes of physical activity for people diagnosed with cancer?

As the population of cancer survivors grows, this research will provide insight into how to best promote physical activity in cancer survivors as well as providing evidence for its health benefits.

Dr Brunet will use this information to plan, implement and evaluate tailored interventions to promote physical activity in cancer survivors. She will also develop clinical practice guidelines to prevent and treat cancer-related sequela.  Brunet’s research philosophy is to demonstrate integrity and employ rigorous methods in promoting physical activity to optimize health, well-being, and quality of life in cancer survivors.

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Brunet on this significant accomplishment and prestigious award!
