Carissima Mathen publishes new book on the failed SCC appointment of Marc Nadon: The Tenth Justice

As a new addition to the UBC Press “Landmark Cases Series”, our own Professor Carissima Mathen and Dr. Michael Plaxton of the University of Saskatchewan have recently published The Tenth Justice: Judicial Appointments, Marc Nadon and the Supreme Court Act Reference. The book recounts one of the strangest legal sagas in recent years: the failed Supreme Court appointment of Justice Marc Nadon.

With detailed historical and legal analysis, including never-before-published interviews, The Tentice Justice explains how the Nadon Reference came to be, the issues at stake, and its legacy.  Click here to learn more about the new book.

The Tenth Justice is Professor Mathen’s second book since 2019.  Her ground-breaking monograph Courts Without Cases: The Law and Politics of Advisory Opinions (Hart) recently received two highly favourable reviews by noted scholars Kate Glover-Berger and Emmett Macfarlane.

Congratulations to Professor Mathen!
