Conference on the Rights of the Child: Voice, Vulnerability and Protection

To mark the 30thanniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory on the Rights of the Child (IRLRC) calls for a reflection on the principles and challenges that underlie children’s rights. This multidisciplinary and bilingual half-day conference examines the interaction between the child’s right to protection, which forms the foundation of children’s rights based on the child’s inherent vulnerability, and the child’s right to be heard or participate in matters that affect them, which is often considered a key principle of the CRC.
Proposals can focus on:
- The child’s place in procedures that concern her/him
- The voice of the child within child welfare
- The child’s access to justice
- The protection of a child in implementing his/her right to be heard
- The inherent vulnerability of a child as a child rights principle
- The different vulnerabilities of a child
- The best interest of the child: a notion that allows a child to be heard and protected?
This call is intended for graduate students (Master or doctoral level) in any field whose research concerns children and youth and issues related to child protection, child vulnerability, or the voice of the child.
