Graduate Catherine Julie Deschênes becomes a military judge
Commander Catherine Julie Deschênes (LL.M.), an officer of the Canadian Forces and graduate of the Faculty of Law, has been appointed as a military judge by the Governor General of Canada. She was sworn in at a ceremony on October 11, 2019 in the courtroom of the Asticou Centre. Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies in Law, Sochetra Nget, attended the event.

Commander Deschênes holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.), which she obtained in 2014. Her dissertation focused on Canadian military tribunals and she was supervised in her work by Professor Rachel Grondin. She was awarded the Raoul Barbe and Yolande Larose Graduate Scholarship on the study of the judiciary. Commander Deschênes is from Chelsea, Outaouais, Quebec. She is a Canadian Forces officer and a lawyer registered with the Quebec Bar.
