Please note: Students who have undertaken or completed their legal studies outside of Canada cannot apply to transfer.
Students who have successfully completed their first year in a Canadian common law program are welcome to apply to transfer to uOttawa law.
Applications are to be completed online via OLSAS. The application deadline is May 1st. Early applications are encouraged.
Transfer applicants must submit:
- Official transcripts for all post-secondary studies;
- Two letters of reference, at least one of which must be from a law school professor;
- A personal statement that describes the personal, academic or professional reasons why the applicant wishes to transfer to the University of Ottawa;
- A letter from the Dean of the current law school attesting to the fact that the student is in good standing and has not been the subject of any disciplinary actions.
LSAT results are not required for Transfer applicants.
Files that remain incomplete as of August 1st will be cancelled without further notice.
If you are accepted into our Common Law Program as a Transfer applicant, you will (upon successful completion of your studies) receive a degree from the University of Ottawa, and not from the institution where you began your JD.
Please note that second-year students are not eligible to apply to transfer.
