September 25: Professor Aimée Craft will participate in an event hosted by the David Suzuki Foundation entitled Reweaving the Legal Fabric: Indigenous Governance and Conservation Law in Canada.
September 30: The Office of the President welcomes everyone in the community to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, in University Square at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony will be followed by a community feast in FSS 4007.
October 2: The Shirley E. Greenberg Chair for Women and the Legal Profession Speaker Series, will welcome Angela Sterritt, journalist, host, and author of Unbroken, and Myrna McCallum, lawyer and host of the podcast “The Trauma-Informed Lawyer”, for a talk entitled Unbroken: Investigating Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women.
October 3: The Reconciliation and Decolonization Committee will host a reading circle featuring Seven Fallen Feathers by Tanya Talaga. This important book delves into the stories of seven Indigenous students who lost their lives in Thunder Bay, raising essential questions about systemic racism and the treatment of Indigenous youth in Canada.

At the Common Law Section, we are deeply committed to Indigenous learning, reconciliation and collaboration with Indigenous communities. As a Faculty, we aim to foster an environment where reconciliation is not just a goal, but an integral part of the learning journey for all students. I am proud of our ongoing efforts to ensure that Indigenous perspectives are woven into the fabric of our curriculum and community.
As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, I invite you to learn more about this important day and the legacy of residential schools in Canada, and visit the website of the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation
The Indigenous Law Students’ Governance (ILSG) is selling orange shirts to support this important day of reflection. These shirts symbolize a collective commitment to acknowledging the history of residential schools and the ongoing impacts of colonization. Please consider purchasing a shirt on the ILSG website.
Our Spirit Garden, located on the third-floor terrace, is a beautiful space paricularly during these beautiful late September days. The four sacred medicines are grown in the Spirit Garden: tobacco, sage, sweetgrass and cedar. If you are looking for a quiet place to read, work or collaborate with a classmate, take some time surrounded by traditional remedies in the sunshine on the terrace.
