The Christine Huglo Robertson Essay Prize aims to engage law students in the work of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ) and to promote scholarship concerning the administration of justice. This year’s theme is families and the law. The award is open to students registered for an undergraduate degree (J.D., LL.B. or B.C.L.) at Canadian universities.

CML 3351 FS - Global Technology Law and Policy (Summer 2024)
Professor Michael Geist

Global Technology Law and Policy is an intensive two-week seminar that examines the development of global technology law policy including privacy, intellectual property, and artificial intelligence regulation. The course is a joint initiative of the University of Ottawa, the University of Haifa, and Bocconi University in Milan with up to ten students from each university participating. The course is scheduled to run from April 30 to May 10, 2024. This year, classes will run for one week in Ottawa and a second week in New York at the Zicklin School of Business. All University of Ottawa students will receive a bursary of $1000 to support related travel costs. The course credit can be applied for the 2024-25 academic year in either the fall (CML 3351 FS) or winter (CML 3351 WS) semesters. No additional fees are required. To be considered, the following should be submitted to Professor Geist via hard copy or e-mail ([email protected]):

BIPOC Success Accelerator Group

Loyola Patent Law Interview Program

Are you interested in patent law? Good news, our law school has signed up for the Loyola Patent Law Interview Program. It's an annual two-day interview program that brings together patent law employers and law students for interviews for summer associate positions and post-graduate jobs in the United States. Student registration will begin on February 14th and end on March 27th. JD students graduating in 2025 (3L) and 2026 (2L) can register for the 2024 Patent Law Interview Program. Fellowships - Summer 2024

The deadline to submit your application for a summer Fellowship 2024 is March 18, 2024, at 12:00 (noon).  Applications must be submitted via the 2024 Bourses de stage | Fellowships portal in one PDF file. 

There will also be Fellowship drop-in hours to discuss your application in more detail prior to the submission deadline. The Fellowship drop-in hours will be the three Wednesdays prior to the application deadline, 11:30am-1pm on February 21 & 28 in-person in FTX 230, and 11:30am-1pm on March 6^th on the CPDC Zoom room link since this one will be during winter semester reading week.

The Ottawa Law Review (OLR)is currently recruiting Associate Editors for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Associate Editor position is a three-credit courseopen to students entering 2L in Fall 2024.

Associate Editors are responsible for conducting the primary edit of submissions accepted for publication and supervising Assistant Editors during the editing process. In addition, Associate Editors are responsible for performing work as a member of a committee overseen by a Senior Editor.

Students are reminded that the University of Ottawa Student Union operates a volunteer Foot Patrol service to accompany students who walk or use transit Monday to Thursday from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. Mental Health & Wellness Counsellor 

The Common Law Section has a dedicated Mental Health and Wellness Counsellor who is a member of the Counselling Services staff and is available to provide counselling services to Common Law students at Fauteux Hall. 

When you contact Counselling Services, you will be initially scheduled for a brief mental health intake appointment (virtually or in-person at the SHWC in Minto) with an intake officer to discuss your mental health concerns and needs. The initial intake appointment is a first step to accessing counselling. From there, you will be directed to our dedicated counsellor and/or referred to other appropriate services on or off-campus that are best suited to your needs.

The University of Ottawa Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Canadian Red Cross are offering the 2024 Summer School on International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

The goal of this course is to offer students and professionals the fundamentals of IHL and the opportunity to apply this knowledge through realistic case studies and a full simulation day. Applications from students, academics, government employees, NGO and IO staff, journalists and those with an interest in learning about IHL are welcome. Preference will be given to participants with exposure to the application or the theory of international humanitarian law, international human rights law or humanitarian work.
