Law graduates (and soon to be graduates) interested in the prestigious Judicial Fellowship Programme at the International Court of Justice must apply internally by January 13, 2025. This 10-month fellowship offers hands-on experience in public international law, working directly with a Member of the Court.

CML3137 J - Critical Race Theory

This course will pursue the project of understanding how race and the law are co-constitutive. Critical race theory departs from a legal liberal theory of law by positing that law is complicit in the maintenance of multiple intersecting social hierarchies, including race, gender and class hierarchies. 

CML4107 JC - Studies in Business Law (Law and Entrepreneurship)

This innovative course explores the intersection of law and entrepreneurship, equipping future lawyers with the entrepreneurial mindset and skills needed to navigate and support business ventures effectively. Designed specifically for law students, the course combines legal principles with practical business strategies, emphasizing the vital role of entrepreneurial thinking in the legal profession. 

CML4101 B - Studies in Constitutional Law (Search and Seizure) 

The Search and Seizure course will have two objectives: First, it will educate students on the law, including procedural and substantive issues. The legal principles of search and seizure will be covered in detail. Some foundational aspects of the law will be reviewed at the outset.
The second aspect of the course is to instruct students on how to practically approach search issues in litigation. Emphasis will be placed on properly framing search issues, considering onuses and burdens of proof, as well as tactical decision-making. 

CML4111 D - Studies in Criminal Law (Extremism in Canada)

This is the first seminar course of its kind at the faculty about extremism in Canada. It will employ both criminal and national security paradigms to explore Canada's response to extremism, including terrorism prosecutions.

Pursue a student-proposed internship during your studies at uOttawa. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience and expose yourself to a variety of practice areas and work environments. Apply by January 9, 2025 for the Winter term.  

If the UO-Academic Integrity Training (ITD 1100-A00 or ITD 1500-A00) appears in your course schedule in uoZone for the Fall 2024 term, and you did not pass the training by the Nov. 1 deadline, your student account will remain flagged until the module is successfully completed. To prepare for the upcoming exam period, please ensure that Examplify is installed, up-to-date, and tested well in advance.

Key Steps:

• New Installation: If Examplify is not yet installed, download it from the Faculty’s ExamSoft portal at https://ei.examsoft.com/GKWeb/login/ottawalaw using your uoZone login credentials.
• Upgrade Existing Examplify Installation: If Examplify is already on your laptop, launch the app and complete any available upgrades.
• Run Practice Exams: Complete mock exams to confirm Examplify is working on your device. This step is essential for troubleshooting and getting familiar with the software. The password is 123Abc
• Register: After testing Examplify, complete the Examplify Registration Form to authorize the $57 CAD annual licensing fee. Students who submit the form by November 24, 2024, will see the fees on their account at the end of November.

Enrolment in a January intensive session course is mandatory for students in the JD program. The January intensive course is part of the Winter term. If you intend to enrol in a Directed Research Project or a course by selection instead of the course you are currently enrolled in, please process your modification of enrolment as soon as possible to allow students who wish to attend an intensive course a chance to select their preferred course before January.
