Pierre Champagne is a partner in the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP. He practises civil and commercial litigation in both English and French. During his 23 years of practice, he has been involved in a variety of civil and commercial disputes. Among others, he has acted on behalf of, or against, entities in the public and private sectors, including in relation to the following industries and professions: accountants, denturists, engineers, investment advisors, insurance brokers and agents, insurance adjusters, home inspectors, school boards, municipalities, religious institutions, health care associations, lawyers, banks, business owners, software distributors, as well as construction companies and insurance companies.
His experience in representing a diverse clientele and his relationship-based approach to client service make him an outstanding advisor in dispute resolution strategy. Mr. Champagne has appeared on numerous occasions before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada and various administrative tribunals.
He completed his university studies at the University of Ottawa, obtaining degrees in engineering and law, both with high distinction. Mr. Champagne has also completed the Canadian Securities Institute's Canadian Securities Course. He received the Blake, Cassels and Graydon Award and the Ontario Attorney General's Award for achieving the highest academic standing while making a significant contribution to the advancement of the common law in the French language. Mr. Champagne has participated in two (2) moot court competitions: the Laskin moot court and the Moncton-Ottawa moot court, in which he won the Beaulne and Sirois judges' award for the best student moot.
From 1994 to 2002, Mr. Champagne taught the engineering law course at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering. Since 2002, he has been teaching the civil procedure course in the national program of the Faculty of Common Law at the same institution.
