Biography

Moiz Karimjee works as Acting Deputy Crown Attorney in Ottawa Crown Attorney’s office which he joined in 2003. He is a leader of the Ottawa Crown Attorney’s Hate Crime Prosecution Group and is a founding member of the Ontario Hate Crime Working Group. In addition to prosecution of hate crimes, Moiz Karimjee has prosecuted significant other cases, such as the first conviction in Ontario for sexual assault by secretly recording and participating in the sexual activity, and Freedom Convoy 2022 cases. Prior to joining Ottawa Crown Attorney’s Office, he worked as a prosecutor in Whitby and Newmarket from 2000-2003 and defence counsel from February 1999-September of 2000.

Moiz Karimjee is also the author of three editions of Issues in Criminal Trials and Summary Appeal Law, published by LexisNexis in 2015, 2018, and 2023.

Moiz Karimjee is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School (1997, LLB) and University of Guelph (1994, BA, General). He was called to the Ontario Bar in February of 1999.
