Candidates enrolled in the Law Society of Ontario’s lawyer licensing process who hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from a recognized Canadian law school, or an equivalent degree as determined by the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA), and who have successfully passed licensing exams and obtained a Certificate of Qualification (for internationally trained lawyers), are eligible. Candidates must also be authorized to study and work in Ontario.
Program Overview
Imagine meeting a client, opening a file, and starting work on their business acquisition. Or receiving a call from a client who has been arrested. Shortly after, you're tasked with drafting pleadings in a civil case that requires legal research. The next day, you're assigned another research project, attend a virtual meeting about client confidentiality, another session with a real estate expert, and a professional development webinar.
Welcome to a glimpse of the first four months of the LPP's training component! This is not a classroom—it’s simulated law firm work. You’ll engage in activities and assignments that build the skills needed to practice law. Once the training is successfully completed, you’ll start your in-person work placement (the placement component), applying everything you’ve learned. This pathway to licensure is equivalent to articling. The eight-month LPP sets you up for success.
