Congratulations to our Common Law graduate, Mario Torres, JD ’16, for his re-election as President of the Canadian Hispanic Bar Association (CHBA). The CHBA welcomed a new board of directors for the 2022-2023 term, with Mario Torres re-elected as president for a second term.

"It is truly humbling to return as president of the CHBA. As many know, the CHBA is close to my heart, and I am excited about where the organization is now and where it is going," said Torres.

Torres has been an employment lawyer at Brazeau Seller Law in Ottawa since 2017, after having completed his articling at the firm. He assists and represents both employers and employees to ensure they understand their rights and obligations. He acts in wrongful termination claims, human rights proceedings, employment standards proceedings and restrictive covenant disputes. Torres also advises on employment contracts and employee rights and litigates defamation cases. He has worked on legal issues in several Latin American countries and has assisted Canadian companies in entering Latin American markets. He also assists Latin American clients in their legal matters in Canada.

The CHBA is a non-profit organization representing the Hispanic and Latin American legal community in Canada. By providing professional advocacy and quality events, the association helps its members: celebrate the uniqueness of the Hispanic/Latino legal community, access contacts and peer support, advocate for themselves and the community, prepare for the ever-changing legal environment and grow their business.

The Common Law Section congratulates Mario Torres on his new election and wishes him every success!
