Common Law Alumni winners in the 2020 and 2021 CCLA Awards
Several alumni will be honoured and celebrated at the upcoming County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) Awards Gala. The event, which will be held on June 16, 2022, will be the first in-person CCLA Awards gala since 2019. While the pandemic kept them from celebrating award winners for over 2 years, the CCLA will recognize three years of award recipients at one gala.
The Common Law Section’s alumni winners:
- Abe Feinstein, LLB ’73, is being celebrated with the 2020 Legal Innovator Award (posthumously). This award is in recognition of Mr. Feinstein’s courage, perseverance and innovations in the practice of law which not only contributed to the betterment of the profession but also forged an easier path for others to follow.
- The Honourable Maria Linhares de Sousa, LLB ’76, will receive the 2020 Honourable Heidi Levenson Polowin Award for Family Law. This award is in recognition of Madam Justice Linhares de Sousa’s great dedication to, and high ideals in, the practice of family law. The award includes a $1,000 donation, made by the Polowin Family in Heidi’s memory, to a charity of Justice Linhares de Sousa’s choice.
- Allan O’Brien, LLB ’73, will be celebrated with the 2021 Carleton Medal (posthumously). This award recognizes Mr. O’Brien’s significant contributions to the profession of law through great diligence, high ideals and outstanding leadership throughout his career.
- Frank McNally, LLB ’03, will be awarded the 2021 Gordon F. Henderson Award. This award recognizes Mr. McNally’s significant contributions, great dedication and high ideals in service for the betterment of the community. A $1,000 donation will be made by the CCLA, on Mr. McNally’s behalf, to a charity of his choice.
- Margot Leduc Pomerleau, LLB ’10, will be awarded the 2021 Regional Senior Justice Award. This award is presented to lawyers who have been in practice ten years or less. It recognizes Ms. Pomerleau’s outstanding contributions and excellent contributions to the profession, as well as her outstanding contributions to the community.
- Karin Stein, LLB ’04, will be awarded the 2021 Legal Innovator Award. This award recognizes that Ms. Stein’s courage, perseverance and innovations in the practice of law not only contributed to the betterment of the profession but also forged an easier path for those who follow.
