Professor François Larocque has been selected as one of four new Fellows of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, bringing his knowledge and expertise to the Foundation and its Scholars as they embark upon their 2021-2024 Scientific Cycle on the theme of Language, Culture and Identity (PDF, 1.07 MB).
Trudeau Fellows are selected based on their record of excellence in research, their leadership as public educators, their strong teaching and academic mentoring skills, and the relevance of their work to the current scientific cycle. Fellows offer intellectual guidance to the Foundations’s Scholars – outstanding doctoral candidates who receive funding and leadership training from the Trudeau Foundation – to help nurture the next generation of public intellectuals. Fellows introduce Scholars to new contexts and perspectives, while teaching them how to translate their research into action.
Professor Larocque holds the Canadian Francophonie Research Chair in Language Rights, advancing knowledge in the field of language rights and contributing concretely to the development of legal standards related to language in Canada. In addition to Professor Larocque, the new Fellows for 2021 include Stéphanie Chouinard of the Department of Political Science at Royal Military College, Lorna Williams, Canada Research Chair in Education and Linguistics at the University of Victoria, and Robert Blair of the University of Nebraska. All of the 2021 Fellows demonstrate expertise and complementary perspectives in the areas of language, culture and identity.
