Ranjan is a partner at Bennett Jones LLP, in Toronto, where he focuses on complex commercial, class action and international arbitration. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004 and has previously volunteered for and presided on the board of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto. He has always strived to give back to the community. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada on more than a dozen cases and has taught class action law at the University of Toronto.
Ranjan’s appointment signifies that he will take on the role of 1st Vice President of the OBA in September 2021 and then become President the following year, in 2022.
“My objectives for the OBA in 2022-23 are three-fold: (a) to develop a best-in-class leadership institute, with a view to providing lawyers with the training to become leaders in their communities and the profession; (b) to operationalize strategies to end the access to justice crisis in Ontario by 2030; and (c) committing the OBA to a year of male allyship, including joining the UN’s @HeForShe global solidarity movement for gender equality.” - Ranjan Agarwal

Ranjan and his wife have been giving back to the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law, Common Law Section since 2013, when they created the Ranjan Agarwal and Sunita Bhowmik Prize, bestowed on the graduating student with the highest cumulative grade point average over all four years in the JD/MA (International Affairs) program.
