In collaboration with the Faculties of Law, Engineering and Social Sciences, this spring the Leadership Academy of the University of Ottawa is offering training that focuses on the BEING of a leader, while shedding new light on certain aspects of the DOING or “skills” on which traditional leadership training is usually centred.
This training has been called transformational by a wide range of past participants, from professors and researchers, to administrative staff, to members of the public service and the external community. This is reflected in the glowing testimonials collected over the years: https://www.uottawa.ca/faculty-law/civil-law/leadership-academy.
Over six intensive days (offered in person on April 10, 11, 24, 25 and May 1 and 2) participants will explore a series of empowering distinctions designed to open access to being a leader and to the effective exercise of leadership as one’s natural self-expression. Even for those who don’t occupy jobs traditionally seen as leadership positions, the training opens the door to a more effective engagement with situations in any professional capacity, in one’s personal life and in one’s community. Drawing on insights from a range of fields, including neuroscience, linguistics and philosophy, the course shows that leadership is not simply an intrinsic quality that leaders possess; it is a way of being that is open to all of us and which can be brought to any leadership challenge.
This year, the training will be offered in English only. The registration fees are $500 for administrative staff, $1,000 for faculty members, and $2,500 for members of the community external to the University of Ottawa.
Through this course, you will:
- Gain access to a new approach to leadership as a way of being and acting (and not as a product of charisma, characteristics, title or authority);
- Achieve significant breakthroughs in your professional and personal life — in any environment, under any circumstances;
- Identify of ways of being that are interfering with the possibility of your exercising leadership effectively;
- Reconnect with your power to make things happen, and with the source of aliveness that generates the desire to make noteworthy contributions to others;
- Discover how to deal with personal or organizational inertia and lack of motivation in teams while working in a way that speaks to every member of a team.
This training is about the BEING of the human being. It is designed to reach everyone, to be accessible to all, and to be rooted in the as-lived leadership challenges of our daily lives. We encourage you, therefore, to circulate the invitation as widely as possible.
Join us to develop yourself as a leader and experience a transformation that will leave you exercising leadership more effectively.
