The annual event features teams from law schools across Canada and highlights the importance of negotiation in a legal context. Teams of two students advocate for their clients’ interests in an effort to negotiate a transaction or resolve a dispute. The competition involves multiple rounds of two-party and multi-party negotiations.
Priya and Jeremy had qualified to represent the Common Law Section at Dentons’ Ottawa Negotiation Competition, held last November, in which 32 teams competed.
Dentons and the Common Law Section sponsored the team’s participation in the national competition. Dentons’ associate Emily McMurtry, JD ’18, was their coach. She said, “I commend Priya and Jeremy for their hard work over the past few weeks. Throughout our multiple sessions, they were relentlessly committed, prompt in responding to feedback, incredibly thoughtful and, most of all, a true pleasure to work with. (They) exhibited the qualities you’d expect from fine and seasoned litigators this weekend and it was a joy to watch them negotiate. I am a very proud coach.”
Dentons associate Sean Del Giallo and Professor Ellen Zweibel also helped coach the team.
