Marie-Carène Pierre René holds a PhD in Education and Second Languages from the University of Ottawa. Throughout her doctoral studies, she has focused on “Black” English learning, or what Ibrahim (2004) calls Black Stylized English, among Black Canadian students. Her fields of interest are racialization, anti-racist education and language didactics.

Dr. Cécile Rousseau, MD is a child psychiatrist and professor of the Division of Social and Cultural Psychiatry at McGill University. She has worked extensively with immigrant and refugee communities, developing specific school-based interventions and leading policy oriented research. Presently her research focuses on intervention and prevention programs to address violent radicalization.

  • Myrna LASHLEY | Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University | Black Students and Racism – Using Family and Friends as Ways of Coping

Dr. Myrna Lashley holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from McGill university. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of McGill University as well as a researcher and project leader at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital. She is an internationally recognized clinical, teaching and research authority in cultural psychology, and serves as an expert psychological consultant to numerous institutions.
