HRREC Member Murray Snider Attends the 2019 AHRI Annual Conference in Germany
On September 6 and 7, 2019, Murray Snider LL.M. student and member of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) attended the Association of Human Rights Institutes’ (AHRI) annual conference at the University of Potsdam, Germany. This year’s conference focussed on International Human Rights Law (IHRL) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the challenges ahead, notably the relevance of IHRL in situations of armed conflict.

Supported by HRREC, Murray presented his ongoing research on the protection of cultural property in periods of armed conflict and the interrelationship between IHRL and IHL. He also represented the HRREC in the AHRI general assembly, which admitted new members and agreed to financial and operational plans for the year ahead.

Murray also contributed to the discussion and drafting of AHRI’s “Potsdam Declaration” which will be a joint statement on the interrelationship of IHRL and IHL and its contemporary importance. The Declaration will be made public in the coming weeks.
