Christian Mpabwa is a doctoral student in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, where he also obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M).
His research explores the interactions between mining rights holders and local communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Taking a cross-disciplinary approach, he focuses in particular on the implementation of the specifications process (an innovation of the 2002 mining code as revised in 2018), aimed at guaranteeing the effectiveness of socio-economic and industrial development projects in areas affected or concerned by mining projects.
Christian Mpabwa is one of the student leaders of the first cohort of the Observatory on Human Rights at the United Nations, an initiative of the civil law section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa.
An alumnus of the YALI-Dakar Regional Leadership Centre (2021), he served a term as Co-President (2022-2023) of the Graduate Law Students' Association (GSLEED) and has significant experience as in-house counsel.
