The Daniel Samuel Maseko Memorial Scholarships are established in his late father’s memory to honour his unwavering belief in the value of a good education. Upon completing high school at Prince Edward School in Harare, Zimbabwe, Dudley immigrated to Canada to further his education. He attended Carleton University in Ottawa where he earned his bachelor of arts with honours and master’s degree before going on to earn a law degree from the University of Ottawa law school. A good education has opened many doors for Dudley and he would like to give the same opportunities to students from 8 countries in the Southern African Development Community admitted to study at the University of Cape Town beginning in 2020. Students from Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are encouraged to apply for the CAD$5 000.00 annual scholarship. The scholarship is available to undergraduate students across all disciplines of study who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need and community involvement. Dudley lives and practises law in Canada’s Arctic. He is a lawyer with the Department of Justice, Government of Nunavut in the Arctic capital of Iqaluit, Nunavut. Dudley plans to increase the number of scholarships in the near future and expand eligibility to undergraduate students enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He also plans to partner with Carleton University and the University of Ottawa to arrange an exchange year in Canada for some recipients of the scholarships.
