On February 28, 2020, Manitoba’s Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen announced that James Lowry (JD ’14) has been appointed to the province’s Mental Health Review Board.

The Mental Health Review Board hears applications about decisions pertaining to the admission and treatment of patients in psychiatric facilities and ensures reviews are heard efficiently and that patients have access to the care they need.

Mr. Lowry served as a police officer in Toronto for 33 years and previously served with the Canadian Armed Forces Army Reserve. He currently practices in Winnipeg and Ontario as a criminal defense lawyer with James Edward Lowry Law. Mr. Lowry is also a member of Manitoba’s Provincial General Child and Family Services Authority Board of Directors and was recently promoted to Vice-Chair.

Minister Friesen notes that Mr. Lowry’s appointment is a part of Manitoba’s attempts to ensure that Manitobans are represented within the province’s agencies, boards and commissions by highly qualified and enthusiastic people.

Congratulations Mr. Lowry on this appointment!
