Michel W. Drapeau, LLB ‘00, Wins the OBA’s Award for Distinguished Service
Congratulations to Michel W. Drapeau (LLB ’00) who has been award the Ontario Bar Association’s 2020 Award for Distinguished Service.

The Ontario Bar Association Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession in Ontario and to the Ontario Bar Association.

The Ontario Bar Association’s Award for Distinguished Service is awarded to members of the Ontario Bar Association who have made exceptional career achievements in or contributions to the legal profession in Ontario, jurisprudence in Ontario or Canada, the law or development of the law in Ontario or a significant law-related benefit to Ontarians. Drapeau shares this honour with Ian M. Hull of Hull & Hull LLP, Reuben M. Rosenblatt of Minden Gross LLP and fellow uOttawa Common Law alum Audrey Ramsay (LLB ‘93) of Blouin, Dunn LLP. Recipients of the Award for Distinguished Service are awarded a bronze statuette of a lawyer.

Drapeau served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and the Canadian Armed Forces from 1959 until his retirement as a colonel in 1993. He then spent two years as an executive in the Federal Public Service of Canada. He is a lawyer and public notary at the Michel Drapeau Law Office and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. He practices administrative law, in particular in the areas of access to information and privacy, human rights, employment, security and military law and civil litigation. He has appeared before the Federal Court of Appeal, the Court Martial Appeal Court, the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court and many administrative tribunals. He has been an adjunct professor at the uOttawa Faculty of Law since 2009 and is the President of the Board of Directors at Saint Paul University. Drapeau has written many legal texts. He is an expert in Canadian military law and motor vehicle injury claims.
