Professor Denis Boivin is proud to announce the publication of the second edition of his book, Le droit des assurances dans les provinces de common law. The first edition was published in 2006. Professor Boivin wrote this French book with the goal of making insurance law accessible to Francophones and Francophiles based in Common Law provinces (all of Canada except the province of Quebec).

Why a second edition fourteen years later?

As stated on the website of publisher Lexis Nexis:
“Although the book is federal in its approach, the second edition focuses on four provinces: Ontario, New Brunswick, Alberta and British Columbia. It contains dozens of new decisions from the Supreme Court of Canada and appellate courts across the country, as well as legislative reforms that came into effect in 2012 in Alberta and British Columbia and in 2016 in Ontario. Taken together, these developments significantly strengthen the regulatory framework that protects the reasonable expectations of insureds and policy beneficiaries.”

Professor Boivin joined the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section in 1993 after completing his graduate studies at Yale and clerking at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Frank Iacobucci. He teaches and publishes in the areas of torts, insurance law and remedies.
