Professor Carissima Mathen holds her David Walter Mundell Medal
On May 31, 2023, the Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General of Ontario, presented Professor Carissima Mathen with the David Walter Mundell Medal for her extraordinary contributions to legal writing.

“We are people of words. Words matter in our world – in our world in particular,” said Minister Downey. “Each year, the Ministry of the Attorney General awards the Mundell Medal to an exceptional legal author in Ontario. This year’s Mundell Medal winner is an innovative and renowned author on Canadian constitutional law.”

Minister Downey noted that Professor Mathen’s published works demonstrate a mastery of literary craftsmanship and a commitment to making complex legal issues easier to understand. “Throughout her distinguished career as a scholar, writer and speaker, she’s helped enrich the public debate on many important topics, including reference opinions by the courts, regulation of speech, religious freedom and equality. And because of this wide-ranging expertise, Professor Mathen’s publications have been cited by media outlets all over the country, and by many courts including the Supreme Court of Canada.”

Congratulations to Professor Mathen on this exceptional honour!
